Outgrown the Telstra premium?
Telstra is the safe default — and you pay for it. If you’re tired of long contracts, tiered call centres and bills that can creep up over time, here’s the honest side-by-side with a local alternative.
There’s nothing wrong with Telstra. There might be something wrong with the fit.
Telstra runs the biggest network in the country, and for some businesses that reach is exactly what they need. But plenty of small and medium Ipswich businesses are on a Telstra business phone plan simply because they always have been — not because it’s the best value or the easiest to deal with.
IppyComms is a local, Australian-owned cloud phone provider run by the same Ipswich team behind IppyIT. We’re month-to-month, we answer our own phones, and we don’t lease you handsets you’ll never own. Here’s where the two genuinely differ — and where Telstra might still be the right call for you.

Why Ipswich businesses leave Telstra for us.
No more bill creep
One published per-user price with no line rental and no per-feature gouging — the number you sign up on is the number you keep paying.
No 36-month handcuffs
Month-to-month on 30 days’ notice. If we stop earning your business, you walk — no payout, no early-exit balance.
A local human, every time
Call us and the same Ipswich team that runs IppyIT picks up. No tier-1 script, no ticket number, no offshore queue.
Phones and IT, one team
We already manage business IT across Ipswich. Your phones, your network and your support live under one roof — one number to call when something’s off.
Own your kit
Handsets are yours outright from $149, not financed over five years. Standard SIP phones you already own can usually be re-used.
Live in a week or two
Most businesses are cut over in 5–10 business days — the time it takes to port your numbers — with zero downtime.
Where Telstra still makes sense.
We’re not going to pretend Telstra is the wrong answer for everyone. If your business depends on the widest possible mobile coverage in remote Australia, or you need a single national carrier contract spanning many sites, that scale is genuinely hard to match.
What we’d say is this: most small and medium businesses don’t need carrier-scale — they need a phone system that just works, a price that doesn’t move, and someone local who answers. That’s the gap we fill.
Telstra may suit you if…
- You need the broadest mobile coverage across remote and regional Australia
- You want mobile, data and phone on one national carrier account
- You’re a large enterprise with dedicated procurement and account management
- You’re mid-contract and the exit cost outweighs the saving (we’ll help you time it)

Switching from Telstra, answered.
Can I keep my existing Telstra phone numbers?
Yes. We port about 99% of Australian numbers — landline, 1300/1800 and mobile — for free, usually within 5–10 business days. Your old service stays live until the port completes, so there’s no gap.
I’m still in a Telstra contract — can I move?
Often yes. We help you time the switch around your contract end and can run both services in parallel during the transition. Check any early-termination terms on your current plan first — we’ll talk you through it.
Will I lose features I have with Telstra?
Unlikely — queues, hunt groups, auto-attendants, voicemail-to-text and mobile/desktop apps are included on our business plans rather than charged as add-ons. Tell us what you use today and we’ll map it across.
Can I keep my existing handsets?
Standard SIP handsets (Yealink, Snom, Polycom, Cisco) can usually be reprovisioned to IppyComms at no charge. We’ll check your exact models before you commit.
Is IppyComms a real carrier?
Yes — IppyComms is an ACMA-registered carriage service provider using Telstra and Optus wholesale networks, so you get mainstream network quality with local service on top.
How does the pricing compare?
Our plans are $19–$39 per user per month, published, month-to-month, with no setup fee. Telstra’s business pricing varies by plan and term, so the fairest comparison is to send us your current bill — we’ll break it down line by line.
